Mt Crosby Interchange cut again as LNP Government withdraws $170M in critical funding
The people of Ipswich West have been dealt a devastating blow overnight, with leaked Cabinet
Budget Review Committee (CBRC) documents showing the LNP State Government is withdrawing
$170.7 million in funding that had already been committed to the Mt Crosby Interchange by the
previous State and Federal Labor governments.
Set to deliver their second state budget on Tuesday, it seems the LNP Government is still ignoring
the needs of the Ipswich residents, axing much needed investment.
The Mt Crosby Interchange project, highly anticipated by the wider Ipswich community, had already
been secured and funding allocated, with the money sitting in the bank ready to deliver this vital
infrastructure project for our growing community.
Instead of honouring existing commitments, the LNP Government has chosen to rip $170 million
away from Ipswich commuters, leaving our region once again at the back of the queue.
As the fastest growing region in Queensland, Ipswich needs investment in essential infrastructure
and services to keep pace with this population growth. Every dollar withdrawn means delayed
projects and missed opportunities for residents.
The people of Ipswich deserve certainty, not broken promises.
Wendy Bourne, Member for Ipswich West, said the decision was a betrayal of the people of
Ipswich West.
“Ipswich deserves its fair share, but once again our community is being short-changed,” Wendy
Bourne MP said.
“This was funding that had already been committed by both levels of government. It was secured, it
was available, and it was intended to deliver real outcomes for local residents.”
“The LNP Government cannot claim fiscal responsibility while taking money away from one of the
fastest-growing regions in the state.”
“Our community is tired of being overlooked. Ipswich residents pay their taxes, contribute to
Queensland’s economy and deserve the same level of investment as other parts of the state.”
“I am calling on the LNP Government to reverse this decision immediately and restore the full $170
million in funding owed to our community.”
