MEDIA RELEASE: Bourne Says Stop The Distractions And Start Listening to Teachers

Wendy Bourne, State Member for Ipswich West, has called on the State Government to stop passing the notes around, stop deflecting and focus on delivering meaningful support for Queensland teachers and school leaders.

Ms Bourne expressed disbelief at a media release issued today by the Minister for Education and the Arts, which focused on school infrastructure repairs for buildings constructed before 2017.

“This is a clear attempt to shift the conversation away from the real issue which is supporting our teachers and school leaders,” Ms Bourne said. “Stop the distractions and get on with the job of listening to the professionals in our schools.”

“I’m all for school maintenance and infrastructure spending, but the Government isn’t addressing the real problem”.

Since early 2025, the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU) has been negotiating a new enterprise bargaining agreement, known as EB11, on behalf of teachers and school leaders across the state. The previous agreement expired on 30 June.

“All the QTU and its members want is the best outcome for Queensland students. The Government must step up now and deliver fair salaries and improved working conditions for teachers and school leaders,” Ms Bourne said.
