Rosewood Community Kindergarten is celebrating after taking out first place for its display in the Early Childhood Section at the Rosewood Show.
Member for Ipswich West Wendy Bourne joined Margaret Offer from the Rosewood Show Society to present the kindergarten with its trophy and celebrate the children and educators behind this year’s winning display.
Inspired by I Am Me, a song written and performed by First Nations educator Aunty Sharron mirii Bell, the display showcased what the children had been learning about identity, culture, children’s rights and belonging throughout the year.
With permission from Aunty Sharron, the children brought those lessons to life through their artwork, drawings and creative projects, exploring what it means for every child to feel safe, healthy, included and proud of who they are.
During the visit, the children also performed I Am Me for Ms Bourne and Ms Offer.
“It was lovely to hear the children sing the song that inspired their display and then see how they had brought its message to life through their own artwork,” Ms Bourne said.
“This is great achievement and a real credit to the children and educators who put so much creativity and effort into their entries each year.”
“The Rosewood Show is such an important local tradition, and it’s wonderful to see our youngest community members getting involved and sharing what they have been learning.”
Ms Bourne also presented the kindergarten with new art supplies and a book for its library to celebrate Children’s Book Week 2026, which runs from the 22nd to the 28th of August.
Rosewood Community Kindergarten is a community-run, not-for-profit organisation, with local families playing an important role in supporting the kindergarten and creating opportunities for local children. With places currently available, the kindergarten is also welcoming new families to become part of its community.
“This Kindy has a special place in my heart. My son came here and I had the privilege of serving as President, so it was wonderful to drop in and say hello to the teachers, staff, and volunteers,” Ms Bourne said.
“We’ve seen plenty of change at the Kindy over the years, but what hasn’t changed is the strong community spirit and the local families who give so much to make it a great place for our kids.”
The visit was also an opportunity to see the kindergarten’s completed nature playground, which was partially funded through a $35,000 Gambling Community Benefit Fund grant in 2023, with the remaining funds raised through the incredibly hard work and efforts of local families and the wider community.
New shade sails are also on the way thanks to funding through the Capital Works Program, providing the finishing touch to the outdoor space.
“It was great to see the finished nature playground and what has been created for the children to explore, learn and play outdoors,” Ms Bourne said.
“For a community-run kindergarten, funding like this can make a real difference in helping local families deliver projects that will benefit children for years to come.”
