Wendy Bourne, Member for Ipswich West, calls for immediate action following encouraging signs from the Queensland Minister for Transport, Mickelberg, regarding the long-awaited second inner-city bridge for Ipswich.
“I was pleased to see that the Minister for Transport, Mr Mickelberg, appears to have shifted focus from the past and is now looking ahead to this vital infrastructure project. However, once again, I was left to read about this development in the newspaper,” Ms Bourne said.
“With the Minister confirming that funding for the bridge business case has been allocated to Ipswich City Council, it’s time to stop the delays. I urge Mayor Teresa Harding to stop suggesting she is having to wait for the budget; let’s carpool and drive this project over the line.”
The community has waited long enough. Years of feasibility studies and computer-generated simulations have underscored the urgency and viability of the bridge project. The Miles Labor Government wanted to fund not just a detailed business case but also commit to investing $142 million in the bridge’s construction, getting us closer to making this a reality.
“Residents want action, not more reviews. With funding now in council’s hands, there’s no reason to wait for the next budget cycle. Let’s get moving and deliver the infrastructure Ipswich deserves.”
