Wendy Bourne MP blames government for 1,411% increase in patients waiting longer than clinically recommended for surgery at Ipswich Hospital.
Wendy Bourne MP, State Member for Ipswich West, expressed shock and disappointment at the sharp increase in surgical wait times in the past year of LNP government, following data released by Queensland Health showing that the number of patients waiting longer than clinically recommended for surgery at Ipswich Hospital increased by 1,411.8% from November 2024 – November 2025.
Ms Bourne expressed support and gratitude for all of the dedicated healthcare workers in Ipswich, who work tirelessly for our community in the face of ever-increasing challenges at the hands of the government.
Such a sharp increase, fitting so squarely in a year of LNP government, points to systemic failures in LNP health policy that puts her community at risk.
Ms Bourne broke down the numbers in a social media video last week, in which she also offered support to our health workers.
The number of people who waited longer than clinically recommended for Category 2 surgeries increased by 32 times, from just 5 in November 2024 to 161 a year later, and 6 times as many patients waited longer than clinically recommended for Category 1 surgery, the most urgent, rising from just 3 in November 2024 to 20 in November 2025.

“The numbers don’t lie – the LNP’s policies are to blame for these unacceptable figures.”
