MEDIA RELEASE: Backing Our Communities – Wendy Bourne MP Launches Petitions for Rosewood Pool and Upgrades to Thagoona Playing Fields Facilities

Wendy Bourne, State Member for Ipswich West, joined local residents at her mobile office in Rosewood on the weekend, where the community rallied behind two important petitions.

The first petition calls for the Rosewood Aquatic Centre to remain open year-round, ensuring residents have ongoing access to vital recreation, exercise, and swimming safety opportunities. The facility currently closes for five months a year from April-September due to inadequate heating provisions.

“The Rosewood Pool is at the heart of this community. For many families, it’s a vital amenity to stay active, where kids learn to swim, and where residents connect. Closing it for months each year just doesn’t make sense”.

The second petition urges Ipswich City Council and the Queensland Government to work together to deliver adequate plumbing and changeroom facilities at the Thagoona football fields.

“For too long, local footballers and their families have had to put up with substandard facilities that simply don’t meet the needs of a growing community,” Ms Bourne said. “Ipswich is a major sporting hub in Queensland, and it is unacceptable that our athletes don’t have access to proper amenities when training and representing their clubs.”

Residents who attended the mobile office expressed strong support for both petitions, which have now garnered over 50 signatures each when combined with online e-signatures.

“I will continue to fight to make sure our communities get the facilities they deserve.”

Copies of the petitions are available at Ms Bourne’s electorate office, on her website at www.wendybourne.com.au/petitions/ and her social media. They will remain active over the coming weeks.
