MEDIA RELEASE: Bourne Advocates For Residents’ Concerns Around Proposed “Sexfest” Event

Yesterday morning, Member for Ipswich West, Wendy Bourne, facilitated a meeting with Ipswich City Council to ensure residents’ concerns surrounding the proposed Sexfest event were heard.

Joined by Acting Mayor Nicole Jonic, Councillor Jacob Madsen, and General Manager of Planning and Regulatory Services, Brett Davies, local residents raised issues related to noise, traffic, pollution, and environmental impacts.

“These are genuine concerns from members of our community, and their voices deserve to be acknowledged,” Ms Bourne said. “I appreciate the willingness of council representatives to listen, even though current legislation and local laws may not allow ‘public concern’ alone to influence decision-making.”

Ms Bourne confirmed she has written to multiple State Government Ministers, formally raising the community’s concerns.

“It’s important that all relevant departments with jurisdiction over the event’s broader impacts are fully aware of the situation. I’ve asked them to monitor key issues such as noise, pollution, traffic management, and safety to ensure community wellbeing remains a top priority.”

Ms Bourne reaffirmed her commitment to advocating on behalf of her constituents and ensuring transparency and accountability in the lead-up to any proposed event.

Community members who have raised concerns about this proposed event have made it clear – they do not want this event to go ahead.
